How Much Does IBKR Pro Cost?
In most situations, the IBKR Pro pricing plan at Interactive Brokers does not cost anything at all. For example, all of the broker’s great software tools are completely free, and there are no recurring account fees of any kind, like annual or low-balance charges.
Moreover, in some cases where there are fees, as in the case of market data, the IBKR Pro subscription plan costs the same as the IBKR Lite system. This is also sometimes true for commissions. Forex and bond trades, for instance, have the same commission schedule on either pricing plan, Pro or Lite.
There are a few cases where the IBKR Pro schedule costs more or less than the Lite plan. Trades of U.S.-listed stocks and ETFs, for example, carry commissions on the Pro plan (but not on Lite). Here are the exact trading fees:
IBKR Pro – Fixed
0.5¢ per share with a $1 minimum commission (and 1% maximum of trade value)
IBKR Pro – Tiered
| Monthly share volume | Commission |
| Under 300,000 | 0.35¢ per share |
| 300,001 - 3,000,000 | 0.2¢ |
| 3,000,001 - 20,000,000 | 0.15¢ |
| 20,000,001 - 100,000,000 | 0.1¢ |
| More than 100,000,000 | 0.05¢ |
The tiered schedule has a minimum commission of 35¢. The 1% maximum remains. Regulatory fees are passed onto the client on either the tiered or fixed plan. On the former, exchange fees, clearing fees, and pass-through fees are also the responsibility of the customer.
For options, IBKR Pro accounts can choose between fixed and tiered pricing. The trade fee is 65¢ per contract on the fixed plan and a range of 15¢ to 65¢ on the tiered system (Lite customers always pay the fixed price). In either case, fixed or tiered, there is a $1 minimum commission per trade. Futures have a similar pricing schedule (the base is 85¢ instead of 65¢) with no minimum commission. E-micro futures and options on futures have a base of 25¢.
IBKR Pro customers can actually start to save money when it comes time to trade on margin. They pay
anywhere from 5.14% to 4.14% for margin debits, depending on the balance. These numbers assume U.S.
dollars are borrowed. Other currencies have different rates. Lite customers pay a flat 6.14% for borrowed money.
And for balances of idle cash above $10,000, IBKR Pro clients earn 0%.
Lite accounts, by contrast, only earn -1%. Most other currencies are off by 1% as well.
As can be seen, IBKR Pro accounts can actually come out ahead compared to their Lite counterparts if they trade on margin heavily and have large amounts of uninvested cash.
