Requirements to Open an Acorns Account
There are two important stipulations to be aware of before opening an investment account with Acorns:
- Be
18 years of age or older
- Be a
U.S. citizen or legal resident who lives in the United States
Non-U.S. citizens may be able to open accounts, although Acorns requires a residential address in the United States. The address cannot be a PO Box or business address.
Required Information
To comply with federal law, Acorns will attempt to verify every account application. As a result, applicants may be asked to upload a copy of a government-issued ID. This or another document can easily be uploaded through Acorns’ website or mobile app.
Acorns does require a valid
Social Security Number (SSN) or Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN) to open an account.
Acorns also requires a linked external bank account to fund investments, use Round-Ups, and pay the invest account’s monthly fee. A
$5 deposit from a checking or savings account is required to actually start investing.
