Opening account at TD Ameritrade for foreign residents, E.U. and non-U.S. citizens. Can international investors sign up with TD Ameritrade without SSN?

Non-US Persons Can Open a TD Ameritrade Account

If you’re not a US citizen, you can still open a brokerage account at TD Ameritrade. In fact, you can open several account types, whether you live inside the United States or outside of it. Here are the details:

How to Open an Account

To start the application process, just ahead over to TD Ameritrade application form and click on the green button that says Open New Account. You’ll see several account categories. Click on the one that corresponds to the account type you want to open.

Whether you’re located inside the US or in a foreign country, you’ll start the application in the same way. Once you’re on the online application, some issues may change depending on where your country of residence is. For example, if you live in Malaysia, you will be redirected to the Singaporean TD Ameritrade site.

The broker also has sites for China, Canada, Hong Kong, and Taiwan. Depending on your country of residence, you could be redirected to any of these sites. If you live in any one of these five countries, you can simply apply directly through the TD Ameritrade site for that country.

All of TD Ameritrade’s sites are available in Chinese. The Canadian site is also available in French.

Whichever site you use, you may be asked to supply copies of a financial statement and your passport. You may need to also submit Form W-8BEN to the broker (not to the IRS).
