Is Axa Advisors Safe and Legitimate?

Axa Advisors is the investment advisory arm of the firm and is a member of the U.S. Financial Industry Regulatory Agency (FINRA), which is the self-governing watchdog of U.S. firms in the securities industry. Members of FINRA agree to adhere to the organization’s rules and guidelines for best industry practices, which mostly relate to honest and ethical dealings with clients. This essentially means Axa has pledged to always hold the best interests of its clients above its own when it comes to financial advice. Axa’s investment advisory arm is also registered with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).

Although perhaps less-well known in the U.S., Axa is a strong brand name in Europe, in part because of its 200-year history and brand name. Axa is also a publically traded company, which means they must adhere to a strict set of financial controls and publish audited financials for all to view, something that private wealth advisors are not required to do. This additional visibility required of public firms should give Axa’s clients additional assurance that their dealing with a reputable business.

Is Axa Advisors Insured?

Axa Advisors is a member of the Securities Investor Protection Corporation (SIPC). The SIPC is a federally-mandated, non-profit entity in the U.S. that was established under the Securities Investor Protection Act of 1970 in order to insure investors’ investments and protect their assets in the event their broker goes bankrupt. As an SIPC member, Axa Advisors’ client accounts are protected (up to $500,000 in value with half of that allowed as cash) in the event Axa is no longer solvent.

Axa Advisors Better Business Bureau (BBB) Rating and Reviews

The Better Business Bureau is a private, non-profit organization that assigns businesses a rating based on how well they expect a business will interact with its consumers. Their rating is largely based on the number and context of complaints it receives about the business as well as publically available information. Although Axa Advisors has a strong A+ rating from the BBB, we should note that out of the 16 customer reviews left on their BBB profile their average rating was one out of five stars. While not good, this can sometimes be skewed by the fact that customers with complaints are more likely to go to BBB to leave a review than those with positive experiences.

Is Axa Advisors a Scam?

Axa Advisors is not a scam in the sense that they are a trusted, established, and legitimate firm that offers financial advice and products. They will not steal your money. This doesn’t necessarily mean that their financial advice will be great though. Anyone using Axa Advisors or any other financial advisory service should do their due diligence by at least reading online reviews of the firm to see what others’ experiences were like. When reading reviews, you should pay attention to the suitability (i.e. risk level) of the investments that Axa recommended for different types of clients.
