Even their foreign transaction fees are low, at just 1% of the total transaction amount.

One of the best features of any checking account with USAA is access to free ATMs nationwide. USAA does not charge any transaction fees for using “out of network” ATMs (up to 10 transactions per month); even better, they reimburse up to $15 per month of other institutions’ ATM usage fees.

About USAA Federal Savings Bank

United Services Automobile Association (USAA) is a privately owned Texas-based bank founded in 1922 that serves millions of military service-members and their families by offering competitive rates and services ranging from banking, brokerage, and insurance products.

Like the larger United Services Automobile Association umbrella, USAA Federal Savings Bank markets its services directly to members of the US armed forces and their families. Individuals hoping to bank with USAA must meet the company’s service eligibility criteria in order to open an account. This includes active or retired military personnel, along with their spouses and dependents.

Although they provide services nationwide, USAA operates very differently from most national financial institutions. With only one retail branch to their name (located in San Antonio, TX), account holders may find it difficult to reconcile the lack of face-to-face interaction that comes with USAA products; however, the company has invested significant time and resources into developing alternative solutions for their members. Along with online and mobile deposits, account holders can visit select The UPS Store locations (over 2000 locations nationwide) to take advantage of USAA’s free EasyDeposit service. Additional financial centers, typically located near military installations, may offer limited services to USAA members.
