Does Interactive Brokers Have DRIP?
Traders at Interactive Brokers can enable automatic dividend reinvestment for stocks and mutual funds, but not ETFs. The feature is easy to turn on, although some customers may pay trading commissions for it.
Enroll in DRIP on IBKR
To activate the Dividend Reinvestment Plan (DRIP) at Interactive Brokers, log into the website and go to the Account Settings page, which can be found by clicking the head-and-shoulders icon in the upper-right corner of the site. On the Account Settings page, scroll to the Trading section. In this area, there is a Dividend Election link.
After clicking the Dividend Election link, you’ll see a form for DRIP preferences. At the top, there are account-level settings for stocks and mutual funds. Each category can be set to reinvest distributions or receive them as cash in the account. The setting applies to eligible dividends and distributions.
Below the account-level settings, there is a section for positions. In this area, you can override the account-level settings by choosing a different reinvestment preference for a specific stock or mutual fund. By default, all positions follow the account settings. To change this preference, simply choose the radio button for “Reinvest” or “Receive Cash” for the specific holding.
Securities Eligible for DRIP on IBKR
Interactive Brokers’ DRIP service is available only to IB LLC, IB AU, IB CAN, IB HK, IB IE, IB JP, IB SG, and IB UK clients. Only U.S. and Canadian preferred and common stocks are eligible for automatic stock dividend reinvesting.
IBKR DRIP Fees
Commissions are charged for the trades needed to complete dividend reinvestments. For IBKR Lite customers trading eligible U.S.-listed stocks, the commission is $0. For IBKR Pro customers, dividend reinvestment shares under Tiered pricing are subject to a minimum commission of the lesser of $0.35 or 0.1% of trade value per order; under Fixed pricing, they are subject to a minimum commission of the lesser of $1 or 0.1% of trade value per order.
An automatic dividend reinvestment will be skipped if the account has a margin deficit and is not allowed to open new positions.
