Schwab Overview
Charles Schwab is one of the top rated investment companies in the country with $2.55 trillion in total client assets. The broker provides a broad
selection of investment products. Investment services are available online and in-person at more than 325 offices in 45 U.S. States.
Charles Schwab offers customer service 24/7. The firm has more than 3,400 mutual funds
with no fees. The broker has different types of IRA’s. Like Fidelity, Schwab also has articles and videos for financial education. The broker
has more than 300 brick-and-mortar locations for extra help.
Schwab’s program StreetSmart Edge is a desktop platform that requires a $1,000 account balance to use. Most investors will be able to meet
this requirement. The platform has more drawing tools than LIVE, but fewer technical studies. Extended-hours periods can be added to a graph,
while Ally’s software does not have the ability. StreetSmart Edge also has many more features, including Recognia, a technical analysis tool,
and security research from MarketEdge.
Be sure to check out Schwab’s High-Yield Checking account if you travel internationally.
Compared to the Competition
Compared to some of its rivals, Schwab seems to have less educational information. Fidelity and Merrill Edge, for example, have more investor learning materials.
On the other hand, Schwab operates more local branches than a lot of other brokers. Firstrade, for example, has none, and E*Trade has 30.
Charles Schwab Promotions
Investors who open and fund a new securities account with Schwab with at least $50,000 will receive 500 commission-free trades. The special also includes one
meeting per quarter with a trading coach, which could be really helpful for new investors. The Charles Schwab promo offer is valid for 12 months after account opening.
Charles Schwab Stock Research
1. Login at Schwab.com
To get started, head over to Schwab.com. Login with your User ID and password. If you need help doing so, give Schwab a call at
1-866-855-9102. After logging in, you'll see all your accounts, including Schwab Bank optionsXpress accounts, on a single page. If you need
help at any time, click on the Service tab, and then click on Contact Us. In addition to phone service, live chat is also available.
2. Do Some Research
Click on the Research tab, and then click on Stocks. Here you can do the first step of the investment process, which is finding a stock that is ripe for purchase. Not every stock will be a good buy, so the research process is an important step. Fortunately, Schwab has excellent research tools for equities. The broker's screener looks for stocks based on criteria such as market cap and dividend growth rate. Schwab also has predefined screens for important categories, such as stocks with upcoming ex-dividend dates and A-rated stocks.
The broker provides its clients access to Schwab Equity Ratings free of charge. This analyst service grades around 3,000 US stocks on an A, B, C, D, and F scale. Also available at no cost are reports from several other security analysts, such as Credit Suisse, S&P Capital IQ, and Ned Davis.
Now that you have investigated potential buying opportunities, it's time to narrow down some stock choices. Suppose you decide to buy Facebook (ticker symbol FB). Type in the name of the company or the ticker symbol in the Research field. A drop-down menu will appear with several company names. The stock you're interested in should be at the top of the list. Select it. A detailed page on that stock will now appear. Here, Schwab presents a lot of information on the stock, including relevant news, financial statements, charting with technical studies, and earnings history.
