There’s a $1,500 yearly limit on free stocks (and other bonuses) that any investor can collect from Robinhood. This limit combines account-opening bonuses, referral bonuses, and all other promos.
If you hit the $1,500 annual max, you won’t get any new free shares for the rest of the year, but your referrals still will.
You must wait three trading days before you can sell your free shares. If you want to withdraw that money, you must wait 30 days.

In short, free shares are taxed as ‘Other Income’ on your return, and further gains on those shares count as capital gains.
To figure the value of your free share for tax purposes (other income), you use its worth on the day you received it (not always the day it showed up in your account).
