Robinhood does have a refer-a-friend program, so it can serve as a substitute.
Unfortunately, Vanguard does not offer bonuses for referring friends and family members to the brokerage house. Vanguard does have a referral-style informational form for the Vanguard Cash Plus Account, but it states that it does not currently offer referral incentives. If you’re looking for a way to earn a reward for referrals, Robinhood is worth checking out.
Synopsis of Robinhood’s Referral Program
Simply invite a friend
to open a new account at Robinhood,
and the brokerage firm can give you and the new account a gift stock reward. The reward is a cash value that must be used to claim a fractional share of an eligible stock. The credit will be worth anywhere from
$5 to $200, although Robinhood says approximately
99% of customers will receive a reward worth
$5. On the referring side, there is a yearly limit of
$1,500 in gift stocks through the program.
Not all stocks can be purchased with Robinhood’s refer-a-friend credits. Robinhood currently says the available list contains
26 stocks, selected by choosing the two largest S&P 500 companies within the top 13 sectors based on market cap.
But wait, there’s more fine print. In order to be eligible, the new account must sign up through the referring customer’s special referral link. The referred customer must also be approved for a Robinhood individual taxable brokerage account and link a bank account or debit card. Funding the account is not required for the referral stock reward. If the required link and account connection steps are not completed, neither account is eligible to receive the reward stock.
Eligible accounts that receive reward stocks cannot sell them until
3 trading days after the reward is claimed or granted. The cash value of such rewards cannot be taken out of the account for at least
30 days after the reward is claimed.
Fetching the Referral Link
To find the necessary URL that will be needed to send out to friends and anyone else who might be interested in opening a brokerage account with Robinhood, you’ll need to find the rewards area on Robinhood’s mobile app or website.
In the app, select Earn stock, then choose Invite contacts or Share link to invite your friends. On the web version, select Rewards, then choose Share link. It’s easy to share this link through text message or other methods by tapping the share option. It’s also possible to invite contacts that are stored on the mobile device.
Tracking Rewards
Robinhood keeps track of the rewards it pays out, and it’s easy to go back and check these later. To do so, go to the Past Invites section of the referrals page in the app. You can use this area to confirm whether a friend used your link. If you signed up using a friend’s referral link, you can find your reward stock in your account History.

The transaction history and referral link can also be found on Robinhood’s website. After logging in, look for the Rewards tab in the top menu. Click on this and you’ll get the referral-program details, along with the option to share your referral link.
