Robinhood is a fully electronic brokerage firm. As a result, the account-approval process is mostly automated, although applications can get flagged in some cases, and these will require human approval.

The official policy is that an account application can take up to a few days to be approved. During this time, trades cannot be placed, although it is possible to set up a deposit during this time to start trading right away after the account is approved.
Linking a Bank Account
To make that initial deposit, a checking or savings account needs to be connected to the pending Robinhood account. This is easy enough to do on either the app or website. Because Robinhood uses Plaid, the external deposit account can be connected immediately.
Faster Robinhood Approval Time
Some Robinhood users have reported fast approval times, as quick as a few hours. In this situation,
trading can commence the same day that the account application is submitted. Robinhood offers instant
trading with ACH deposits up to $1,000. Gold customers with less than $1,000 can get up to $5,000 in instant funding,
while Gold investing accounts with more than $1,000 can get up to $5,000 or 3 times portfolio value in instant funding,
rounded down to the nearest whole thousand, whichever is greater.
Getting the Email
When Robinhood approves an application, it will send an email to the address submitted in the application announcing the approval. In some cases, it will send an email requesting more information. To get the account opened as quickly as possible, it's important to submit these documents right away. The email will include instructions on how to submit these documents electronically.

Options Approval
Applying for options approval is a separate step, which can be done either in the initial application or after the account is approved for equity trading. In either case, options approval can take some additional time. If you're in a hurry to trade only stocks, you may want to skip the options section on the initial application and come back to it at a later date.
