Extended-Hours Trading on thinkorswim: Points to Remember

• Both pre-market and post-market trading sessions are available on thinkorswim for stocks and ETFs, although direct cryptocurrency trading is not available.

Advanced trading tools are only one part of what Charles Schwab’s pro-level platform thinkorswim offers. The software also makes it possible to trade before the opening bell and after the closing bell.
Extended and Overnight Hours on thinkorswim
thinkorswim users at Charles Schwab can trade most stocks and ETFs from
7:00 am until 9:25 am, New York time, and from
4:05 pm until 8:00 pm. Of course, the regular day session (from 9:30 until 4:00) is also available. It is not possible to trade most securities during the two five-minute breaks around the regular day session.
24-hour trading is available in more than 1,100 popular stocks and ETFs, although only 5 market days per week are included.
So it’s not quite 24/7 trading.

Extended Hours on thinkorswim Mobile
thinkorswim in mobile format has several duration choices on its order ticket, including a few that extended-hours traders will want to be aware of. They are:
- EXT AM (This is a pre-market Day order)
- EXT PM (This is an after-hours Day order)
- EXT 13h (This order is valid for up to 13 continuous hours and expires at 8:00 pm every day unless GTC is selected)
- EXTO 24h (This order is valid for up to 24 continuous hours on eligible securities and expires at 8:00 pm every day unless GTC is selected)

thinkorswim in desktop version is the final platform, and it, too, has duration choices for extended hours and the overnight session. They are:
- EXT AM (A pre-market Day order)
- EXT PM (An after-hours Day order)
- EXT 13h (A 13-hour continuous Day or GTC order that includes pre-market and after-hours trading)
- EXTO 24h (A 24-hour continuous Day or GTC order for eligible overnight securities)
If a security is eligible for overnight trading, it can be found in the platform’s
24 Hour Trading public watchlist.
Futures and Forex
Futures contracts at Schwab can generally be traded nearly 24 hours a day, 5 days a week, while forex trades 23 hours a day during the trading week. These asset classes are a good choice for overnight trading.
