Wells Fargo Cash Back Visa Signature Card Rates and Fees

The Wells Fargo Cash Back Visa Signature Card has no annual fee and would work well for those looking for a basic cash back card.

It has a balance transfer fee of either $5 or 3% (whichever is greater) of the amount of each balance transfer, which increases to 5% for each balance transfer after 12 months. Cash advances have a $10 or 5% fee (whichever is greater).

The firm charges an overdraft protection advance fee of $12.50 for a daily total of $50 dollars or less in overdrafts or $20 for daily overdrafts totaling more than $50.

Those looking for a credit card for foreign travel would not want to apply for this card, as the Foreign Currency Conversion Fee totals 3% of each transaction, a definite con for those who travel a lot.

It has an introductory APR of 0% for 12 months, with a fairly standard APR of 13.15% to 26.99% thereafter, for purchases and balance transfers. For cash advances and overdraft protection advances the APR is between 24.99% and 26.99%.

Wells Fargo Cash Back Visa Signature Card Rewards

The Wells Fargo Visa Signature card is a cash rewards card that earns the cardholder 1% cash back on everyday purchases and 5% on gas, grocery and drugstore purchases for the first six months only. Currently, the signing promotion earns new cardholders 20,000 bonus points after spending $1000 within the first three months. Wells Fargo revamped its rewards site—Go Far Rewards—fairly recently and while extensive, it has a strange access point. Customers cannot get to the rewards site from their credit card account details page. Rather, they have to return to the Account Summary page to select the Go Far Rewards account, which takes the user to a separate site. You can earn a greater percentage of cash back by making online purchases through designated rotating retailers that you select through the online Earn More Mall site – anywhere from an additional 1% up to an additional 35% Bonus Cash Rewards. While these additional rewards are certainly an incentive, you have to remember to log into your credit card account, go to the rewards site and select the Shop Now link to activate the bonus which is a long process to simply increase your cash back.

While the Go Far Rewards site can certainly seem overwhelming, it is fairly easy to navigate. You can easily book travel with no blackout dates, buy gift cards and merchandise, purchase digital downloads or redeem the rewards money to your account (however only in intervals of $25, $50, $100, $250, $500, $1000, $1500 and $2500). The rewards system does have some additional features, including pooling rewards (such as saving for a wedding gift or a family vacation), gifting rewards and donating rewards to charity, with limited functionality. You can only gift rewards to and pool rewards with other Wells Fargo customers and the charity donation is through $25 Charity Choice gift cards, for which you can choose up to three charities to donate to from a predetermined list.

Account Summary

Wells Fargo revamped its private website in the past year, providing a much more user-friendly and modern experience with a responsive design. If a user holds other accounts with Wells Fargo, they are all listed on the Account Summary page. For the credit card in particular, the firm states the outstanding balance. The page includes a Planning & Tools section that features links to view the user’s FICO Credit Score. In addition to providing the credit score and Wells Fargo credit rating (i.e. good, excellent) the page lists out factors that affect the score, the user’s score history, credit education and FAQs. It’s helpful to have such quick access to your credit score, which is now a common and expected feature on credit card sites. Each page within the site includes a Help link at the top of the page that provides page-specific help information.

Account Details

The account details page clearly states the outstanding balance and features a Balance Information section. Here, the firm includes a Payment Due Information section that shows the minimum payment and the due date and includes a link to make a payment. If the user is enrolled in automatic payments the page clearly states so, which prevents any confusion as to whether or not the user has to manually make a payment at that moment. The Balance Summary section includes all the basic information a cardholder requires at first glance, including the line of credit amount, outstanding balance, available credit, last statement balance, the last date a payment was received and the amount received, and the next statement due date. At the top of the page, users can make a selection from four links that represent some of the most important actions for a credit card: Make Payment, View Statements, Manage Payments and Manage Alerts. Unfortunately, when selecting some options, the user is brought away from the Account Details page and unable to select the back arrow to return to the previous page, which is a nuisance. A nice feature of the Account Details page is the section of quick links to certain actions, including Replace My Card and Manage Travel Plans – two of the more important actions that customers should be able to easily locate.

One of the most essential parts of the online experience is the activity section, where customers can see and search through their recent purchases. The Activity area on the account details page includes an expandable temporary authorizations section and a posted transactions section. There is a clear quick link to Dispute a Transaction and users can easily switch between specific views of Transactions, Payments and Charges. When searching a transaction, customers can search a keyword and filter the options by the type of transaction, statement date or amount of transaction, making it easy to find what they are looking for.

Manage Alerts

Wells Fargo provides an impressive amount of alert options for credit card holders on its Manage Alerts page. For each alert, users can select how they wish to be alerted: email, text or push notification. It is convenient for users to be able to select a different delivery method for different alerts depending on the importance of the alert to the individual.
