Can I transfer an Etrade account, IRA, stocks, ETFs, assets, money to TD Ameritrade brokerage in 2022. How long does it take and how much does it cost.

How to Transfer an Account from E*Trade to TD Ameritrade

If you have an account at E*Trade, and you wish you were at TD Ameritrade instead, don’t fret. It’s possible to move your account to TD Ameritrade; and we’re going to show you how. Just follow these steps:

Step 1: Open an account at TD Ameritrade

The first thing you need to do is open a new account at TD Ameritrade. It has to have the same name on it as your E*Trade account, and it needs to be the same account type. For example, if your E*Trade account is a Roth IRA, then your TDA account also needs to be a Roth IRA.

Also, if your E*Trade account has margin or options trading enabled, you need to have these features on your TD Ameritrade account (before starting the transfer process).

Step 2: Request an ACAT transfer inside your TD Ameritrade account

There’s nothing you need to do at E*Trade; although you will need a copy of your most recent statement. After you have this document, log into your new TD Ameritrade account and click on “My Account” in the top menu.

Transfer Etrade Account to TD Ameritrade

In the drop-down menu that appears, select “Deposits & Transfers.” Here, you’ll be presented with several choices, such as wire transfer, ACH, or check deposit. You don’t want any of these. Choose the option that says “External securities transfer.” Here, you can submit a request to move your entire E*Trade account (or just some securities) into your new TD Ameritrade account.

You’ll need to type in “etrade” or some equivalent, and the online system will present a few choices. Be sure to choose “E*Trade Securities LLC” and not “E*Trade Bank.” After choosing the broker, you’ll be able to select your entire account or individual securities. If you choose the entire account, E*Trade will automatically close your account when it receives the request. Then it will transfer the assets in the account to TD Ameritrade.

If you need any assistance with the transfer, you can contact a TD Ameritrade representative at 1-800-454-9272.

The Cost of Transferring

TD Ameritrade charges nothing for its end of the bargain. E*Trade, however, does have a $75 ACAT fee for a full account transfer. Partial transfers cost $25 per request, but only if the account balance falls below $5,000. If the account stays above that level, E*Trade charges nothing.

TD Ameritrade will reimburse you E*Trade's ACAT fee - just contact them after the account is transferred with a proof of the fee.
